Infiniti Aims to Crash-Proof the Minivan

There’s a new automotive contender for 2012’s new safety tech crown, and no, it’s not a Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Audi. Nor is it a Volvo with its immortal, somewhat over-inflated reputation for safety. It’s the 2013 Infiniti JX, the trade mark’s new midsize (read: plenty large enough) SUV with the heart of suburbia set squarely in its crosshairs.

Now as a conveyance, it’s roughly what you’d expect from the upscale Nissan division, and while certainly hair-splitting enough to deserve a place in the market, don’t expect it to make major waves in the auto hound community. Where it does stand out without question, however, is in its impressive roster of huge-tech safety features.

As a premium ride, it comes with all the manifest bells, whistles and airbags expected of any modern car. It also includes most drugged-end safety features seen on other luxury vehicles, like potent cruise control and a blind spot warning system. It features lane departure counsel, as well as full-on lane departure prevention. (Yes, that means it can control the steering wheel if you become too immersed in the consumption of your burrito).
